Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. She was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell travelled with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times to summits and debate topics like the Iran Contra controversy.
